Description: The Browning BPS is, in essence, the modern equivalent of the famous Ithaca Model 37 shotgun. The Model 37, a development of a design originating from John Browning, was popular with civilians and law enforcement for its down-ward method of ejection. The ejection of empty cases through the loading port, instead of exiting out the side of the receiver through a second port, allowed the 37 to be used equally well by both right and left-handed shooters, a rarity among firearms available in the 1930s when the Ithaca was introduced. The BPS follows in the footsteps of the 37, being suited to shooters regardless of whichever hand they use. In addition, the lack of an ejection port on either side of the receiver provides for a stronger frame than other shotguns. The BPS shown above is the Upland Special although the barrel is still stamped “Field Model”. The Upland Special is distinctive from most other BPS models thanks to its English-style straight grip stock. Both the stock and forearm are made of Black Walnut and feature 18 LPI cut checkering. The barrel is fitted for Invector-Plus choke tubes. The BPS here is pre-owned but is in excellent condition. There is no box. The choke currently fitted has four notches in the front. This means it is a skeet choke if one is using lead shot, or a modified choke when using steel shot. The ribbed barrel is 22-inches (559 mm) long, length of pull is 14.0-inches (356 mm), and overall length is 42.5 inches (1079.5 mm). The magazine tube holds 4 rounds of 2.75-inch shells, or 3 rounds of 3-inch. The BPS has a beautiful, polished finish and the bore is in excellent shape. The only sign of prior ownership is the small hairline crack on the bottom of the fore end. Please see the photos. Finish is overall 98-99 percent condition. The BPS Upland Special is suitable for many duties including hunting, home defense, and clay shooting. SOLD Shotgun Gauge: 20 Gauge Manufacturer: Browning Arms Co.
