This is the rarest version of the Colt SP1 AR15 3x20 scope - the first one that was actually made in Japan - correct for late 60s guns and is considered to be a transitional variant from a "red box" US made scopes to a "white box" more common Japanese made scopes for 1970s vintage rifles. The scope is in mint unused condition with perfect optics and does not appear to have ever been mounted on the gun. The designation and the serial number appear underneath, right above the mount. The rare yellow box is in good shape with a tear in one wall of the upper portion of the box. It also comes in original packaging and with an original manual as well. The serial number of the scope is correct for a "yellow box" scope. Very few of these were made - probably no more than 100-200 units and most collectors never get to see one in their lifetime.
One of a kind item that can be a centerpiece of an early AR SP1 collection.
