The overall length is approx. 57.75"". The 42"" round 69 caliber barrel has a fair smooth bore. The barrel has the customary sunken P over eagle over V inspection and proof marks. The barrel tang is dated 1836. The barrel is a smooth mixture of bright and brown. The lock is marked US over the sunburst over N. STARR at the center and MIDDn over CONN over 1833 over a star symbol at the tail. The lock has a smooth brown patina. The hammer, with its replacement hammer screw, is mostly black which is most likely Bannerman's ""blue"". In the 1930s Bannerman sold a black lacquer paint that they called ""blue"" to customers so they could fix up their guns. The mostly bright US marked butt plate is very good. The trigger guard has a smooth brown patina. The bands are mostly brown. The ramrod and rear swivel are present with the front swivel being broken. The stock is good with some missing chips along the ramrod channel and at the rear of the lock. The outline of the cartouche is barely visible. The lock functions correctly. This arsenal-altered to percussion Model 1816 Starr musket could fill that hole in your collection. b SOLD Antique: Yes |
