EXCEPTIONAL NATIONAL ARCHIVES DOCUMENTED CIVIL WAR 1ST ISSUE HENRY U.S. MARTIAL LEVER ACTION RIFLE ISSUED TO THE 3RD. U.S. VET. VOLUNTEERS SERIAL NUMBER 2076. 44 Henry rim fire caliber 24” octagon barrel. All matching and original in superb condition with approximately 60-70% of the original blue with the rest nicely blended patina on the barrel and superb screws with nearly all the blue . Beautiful unpolished frame and stock with all the finish. Excellent bore. Part of the first purchase of Henry Rifles by the U.S. War Department and shipped in June 1963 to Lt. Col. Lafayette Baker at the Washington Armory for issue to the 1st D.C. Cavalry with whom it saw service until mid 1864 when seven companies of the D.C. Cav. Were reassigned and their Henry rifles were returned to the Armory and subsequently reissued to the 3rd U.S. Veteran Volunteers in March of 1865. Serial number 2076 is listed by serial in the National Archives records of the Henry’s issued to this unit. (See Wiley Sword’s “THE HISTORIC HENRY RIFLE” page 75 as well as Les Quick’s book “THE HENRY RIFLE” page 137). The fourteenth earliest recorded serial number Henry purchased by the War Department and the only one we know of that exists. Extra rare and noteworthy National Archives documented Martial Henry Rifle.
