Payment Types Accepted: cashier check postal money order Description: This is an interesting, duel history Colt SAA, manufactured in 1893. Serial number 150187. It has a 4 3/4" barrel. It was among the last of the SAA revolvers with the angled, black powder retaining screw which had been nearly totally replaced by the lateral spring pin by 1893. The gun has seen use and the hammer stop may have suffered from frequent use of smokeless, rather than black powder. Safety and half-cock position normal and functional. Hard rubber grips do not display the eagle mofit which is normal in this serial range. The grips are unchipped, however, and have approperate wear. Overall, the revolver is a metal-gray with some blue remaining in the protected areas by the ejectors. There are signs of pitting on one side of the cylinder, perhaps the result of the gun being wrapped in a cloth and kept in a trunk for more than a half-century. The front sight has been filed down slightly by the previous owner. The revolver was purchased in Deadwood City, South Dakota, in 1924 from a local dealer and sawmill owner by an officer of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey, Lieutenant Paul A. Smith. Lt. Smith had been leading a surveyal party in the Black Hills and wanted the gun for protection against wild animals and robbers in the aera. He later took the Colt on assignments in Texas and the Philippines for self protection and carried it with him on survey projects in Mindanao. Smith would attain the rank of Rear Admiral and became a leading figure in the U.S. C&GS. The Colt revolver is accompanied by a detailed and authentic history plus photos of it's owner, Paul A. Smith, and his travels. A Colt Historical Letter and all provenance including a detailed history of his travels, also including then Lieutenant Smith's, Government Assignment Orders from the Department of Commerce.
