The 40"" round barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The uncleaned barrel exterior is smooth and bright with scattered brown staining (bright under the bands). It is dated 1863 on the top flat and has the standard VP over eagle below that. The left flat is stamped NJ. There is no pitting around the bolster. The sights are standard. The lock, hammer, and furniture are bright. The lock is marked with the eagle in the center, U.S. over TRENTON forward and 1864 at the tail. The stock is fine with sharp edges, scattered storage dents and dings, and a sharp NJ cartouche on the left flat. The ramrod (brown at tip) and swivels are present. The action functions correctly. This like new gun sat in a closet for years without being cleaned. No one has touched it. Leave it as is or carefully clean the brown staining off to have a like new gun both in condition and appearance. SOLD Antique: Yes |
