It is a reconversion to flint. The 44.5"" smoothbore barrel has a fair bore with light roughness. The barrel is marked P over eagle over V at the breech. All the metal is a bright gray color with areas covered with what appears to be dried linseed oil (easily removed). The lock has U.S. in script over an eagle and SPRINGFIELD in a horizontal curve ahead of the hammer. It is dated 1813 at the tail. The buttplate tang is dated 1812. The lock pan shows evidence of welding to reattach it. The stock is very good with a missing sliver on the left side at the butt and a couple of chips at the ramrod channel. The swivels are one piece (no screws) and the ramrod is a good reproduction. The action functions correctly. This nice representative example of a War of 1812 musket is ready for your collection.
