This scarce 22 Rimfire caliber Vernier Hunter's Pet Pocket Rifle No. 34 1/2 comes with its original detachable shoulder stock. The serial numbers on the receiver, barrel, and stock are matching. It is equipped with a vernier tang sight numbered with the last three numbers of the serial number, special barrel rear sight positioned further forward than the No. 34, and a Beach type combination front sight. The unusually long 27 7/8"" octagon to round barrel has a good dark bore with visible rifling. The barrel exterior is a mix of blue and brown. The left flat has the early J. STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS MASS followed by the patent marking. The 1.25"" wide nickel plated receiver retains approx. 70% nickel with the remainder being smooth brown. The nickel plated detachable butt stock has approx. 90% nickel. The hammer shows traces of original case coloring and the tang sight is a smooth brown patina. The checkered hard rubber grips are very good with no chips or carcks and with light to moderate wear and bruising. The action functions correctly. This pocket rifle is notable for its extra long barrel (usually no longer than 24"") and for the fact that it is the scarce Vernier Hunter's Pet.
