& UNERTL 20X TARGET SCOPE - Near Mint Condition.
J Stevens “Walnut Hill” Target Rifle & Unertl 20X Target Scope: 22 LR caliber, the last of the Stevens models, based on the Model 44 single shot action, and named for the famous Virginia target range, the “Walnut Hill Shooting Range”.
This fine, mid-1930s vintage, virtually mint condition “Walnut Hill” target rifle has a heavy, round 28 inch target grade barrel, excellent bore, barrel band, beautiful case colored frame and lever, both retaining 99% of their vibrant case colors; fading case colors on lever; optional Unertl 20X target scope. Globe front sight and adjustable tang, folding rear sight; barrel fitted with Unertl-type target scope bases. Plain grain pistol grip target stock with beaver tail fore-end, sling swivels and steel butt plate; excellent condition target grade walnut stock, with a just couple of small dings and slightly darkened near steel butt plate.
This fine “Walnut Hill” target-grade rifle is equipped with a 20X Unertl Target scope, the epitome of target rifle scopes, that is available, optionally, with the rifle. The scope is in 99% condition, but is missing its end caps.
This is a first quality match-grade .22 LR target rifle, in absolutely superb finish and condition, and especially rare, in such condition, given it production date in the mid 1930s. Such a fine Stevens “Walnut Hill” rifle is exceptionally rare and seldom found, these days, nearly 100 years after it’s production date! Most examples of this target rifle were well-used, enjoyed and shot extensively.
