Description:
This is a Smith & Wesson Model 559 in excellent and all-original condition. A production run of just 10,609 of these pistols ran between 1981 and 1982. The DA/SA semi-automatic Model 559 pistol was introduced as the full carbon-steel version of the double-stack alloy-framed Model 459, which was also introduced and in production by 1981. The Model 559 featured a machined carbon steel frame and slide, a factory matte blue or nickel-plated finish, a 4" inch barrel left "in the white", a slide-mounted decocker, adjustable combat-style iron sights with protective ears at the rear, a 14-shot double stack magazine, an oval-shaped trigger guard, a serrated rear grip strap with a lanyard loop, and checkered black plastic grips. The Model 559 proved to be a superb weapon, very well-made, reliable, durable, accurate, and easy to operate. Due to robust design and the relatively small total production of the Model 559, all-original and clean examples are sought-after by collectors and shooters alike today.

This particular example is serial number A761433, made in the last year of production in 1982. The factory blue finish rates 98%, with the only deductions coming from some very minor little handling marks/scuffs in the finish. These are located on the left side of the gun, with one spot on the flat of the frame ahead of the trigger guard and the others on the top left-side of the slide, right where the polished flat turns to a matte curve towards the top line of the gun. The bore in this Model 559 is mirror-bright and perfect. The rifling still shows perfectly-defined sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel and there are no visible imperfections or wear.  The exterior of the barrel is bright and clean as well with no staining or pitting.  All of the factory markings on this Smith are crisp, clean, and 100% visible.  The pistol does not have its original box.
