Description:
This is a first year production Colt Lightning large frame rifle chambered in 40-60-260. The serial number is 548 and the rifle was manufactured in 1887. The wood buttstock is in excellent condition with no chips or gouges, just a small minor repair from long ago at the top of the buttplate; see pictures. The wood slide grip retains very good checkering with no cracks or repairs. All the wood retains the original and pleasing finish. The receiver, barrel, magazine tube, buttstock and trigger guard retain about 30-40% of the original finish, which has turned a mottled patina. The barrel measures 28 inches long. The rear sight and front barrel sight may be replacement sights. The rifle’s action was completely restored years ago to like new condition and at that time, the barrel was relined and chambered back to the factory 40-60-260 Colt chambering. The bore is perfect and mirror bright. This rifle has the original, untouched rifle exterior and persona of an antique rifle, along with the capability of competing as a fine target rifle. A nice example of one of Colt's large frame Lightning rifles in a very desirable caliber. Thanks for looking.
