Description:
This is a beautiful all-original WW2 German Army NCO Dove's Head sword and scabbard by Paul Weyersburg in Solingen.  It is particularly scarce in that it is a double-etched blade complete with an inscription to the soldier that owned it in Nazi Germany's 6th Infantry Division.  One side of the blade is etched with scroll/floral work and a battle scene of horse-drawn artillery and cavalryman riding into battle.  The other side of the blade has the same scroll/floral etching with a center section etched with "O. Schutze Rudi Tolle Stab 6. Division 1935-1937".  This translates out to "Oberschutze Rudi Tolle Staff/Headquarters 6th Division 1935-1937"  Nazi Germany's 6th Infantry Division had one of the longest and bloodiest combat records of any of Germany's infantry divisions.  It was formed in 1935 and participated in the Poland invasion and continued fighting to the Eastern Front in Russia where it was totally destroyed in 1944.  It would be very interesting to track down the history of the soldier that owned this sword, Rudi Tolle, given that this sword gives a good starting point with the dates 1935-1936.  As you can see from the pictures, this sword is in very good to excellent condition overall, and has not been heavily cleaned or "improved" by a collector along the way.  There is a good chance that it has never been on the collector's market prior to now in fact, as it came out of an estate where the original owner was a WW2 veteran himself.  All of the finishes are original, and the handle and wire wraps are in excellent condition overall.  The plating on the blade shows some runner marks and small scratches but is fully intact, bright, and very attractive.  The original scabbard shows some scratches and handling marks in the original black painted finish but is free from any dents, repairs, or major damage.  The original throat is still in place with the original screws, and the all of the original hanging hardware is still intact.  This is a great sword and would be an excellent addition to any World War 2 Militaria collection.
