Description:
RARE CALIBER, VERY EARLY POCKET POSITIVE REVOLVER IN .32 COLT, 3 1/2" BARREL, #44XXX, MADE 1908. The Pocket Positive model was introduced in 1905 and continued until about 1940. In the early years of production it was produced in .32 New Police caliber which was the same as .32 S&W Long loaded with a flat nose bullet as opposed to the S&W round nose- either could be used in these revolvers. However, some were also chambered for the .32 Colt cartridge which would only accept the .32 Short and Long Colt, not the more common S&W version. After 1914 all were produced for the .32 New Police (or S&W) round. This very early example is clearly stamped ".32 COLT CTG." on the left side of the barrel. Most of these early pocket revolvers saw heavy carry wear and usually are found in the lower grades of condition. This 114 year old example still shows much of the high polish finish applied by Colt at the time. It shows normal thinning on the barrel sides (mainly the left side) from holster carry along with some back strap wear. The butt and front strap/trigger guard retain fine blue. The cylinder shows some edge wear. The frame has the early "stylized C" around the rampant colt stamping and the hammer back, trigger sides and most screws retain deep fire blue. The grips, bore and mechanics are excellent and the front sight has not been filed or altered. This model is much less common than the Police Positive model manufactured at the same time. A rare caliber variation in particularly fine condition.
