Description:
Harpers Ferry Colt-Conversion Mississippi Rifle with its Original Saber Bayonet. Converted from .54 to .58 caliber just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. Colt also affixed a three-leaf sight, each of the leafs graduated 100, 300, 500 yards. This lovely example has all of features and lots of condition besides. It is stamped on the lockplate vertically "harpers Ferry/1851" and is additionally dated at the breech of the barrel "1851". It bears the small Harpers Ferry proof at the left breech and the inspector's initials "WW/P". "Eagle/US" stamped on the lock forward of the hammer. A 100% Original and pure Harper's Ferry Specimen. The stock has all the original finish with a few minor nicks and dings. Has visible inspector's initials "V/LN" Stamped in the stock opposite the lockplate. The stock has a small sliver of wood missing out of the left side of the channel between the middle and front bands. This could be easily restored. Retains much of the original bluing on the barrel sight and the nipple as well as onsome of the screws. It even has some plum-brown around the bolster. The trigger also has the original bluing finish. The firearms has a brilliant, mint bore and shows little evidence of having been fired. The Bayonet, which isdated "1861" on the ricasso, is in near-mint condition. the Bayonet only shows some very slight discoloration and a few tiny nicks on the blade. The bayonet has most of the original polish on the blade. the rifles serial number is "2202" and teh rifle's barrel assembly is numbered at the breech "200". the bayonet stud ring is numbered "10128" and the barrel has the same "10128" just forward of the front barrel band.
