Description:
OFFICERS MODEL .22 LONG RIFLE CALIBER REVOLVER, #5XXX, MADE IN THE FIRST YEAR OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION AFTER THE STOCK MARKET CRASH IN 1930. The stock market crash of 1929 began the Great Depression. Almost immediately, gun sales plummeted- especially the higher grade target models which were more expensive. The gun companies laid off most of their employees, keeping only the best craftsmen and gunsmiths. With low production and sales, more time could be taken with each revolver and the guns turned out by Colt and S&W during this time were some of the best ever produced. The hand tuning and fitting of these 1930s vintage guns was truly incredible. This example looks like it was carried more than it was shot as the front face of the cylinder retains good blue. There is normal edge wear and light blue wear mainly behind the trigger guard and front strap area as well as some thinning of blue on the barrel sides. There is also a light drag line around the cylinder from the screw above the trigger on the right side not being screwed in all the way at one time and rubbing on the cylinder- it is now screwed in and makes no contact. This is a class act with checkered back strap, trigger and adjustable sights. Action is amazingly smooth and the cylinder locks up with no play at all. Crisp light trigger and bright bore. Nice fire blue on the back of the hammer and trigger sides. Excellent markings with the correct last patent date on the barrel top of 1926. Checkered walnut grips show light wear. It would be hard to find a finer made .22LR revolver today.
