The S&W .38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model was made from 1898 to 1907, in the serial range 116003 to approx. 220000. This later 4th Model (serial # 197614) is fitted with a 3 1/4 inch barrel, checkered hard rubber grips with S&W monograms, is nickel finished with a color case-hardened finished trigger, and chambered in .38 S&W. This 5-shot double action Smith is in fine condition, retaining 80-85% original nickel, with most loss due to flaking. The trigger retains 70% of its original finish. The grips fit well and are in fine condition, with only the right grip having turned a brown in color. The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, and except for a couple of very minor corrosion spots, would look like new. The action works perfectly with a tight barrel to frame fit.
