Description:
"

The Evans Repeating Rifle Company, Mechanic Falls, ME, manufactured approx. 3,000 New Model Sporting Rifles between 1877 and 1879. They featured a 28-shot capacity magazine in the butt for the 44 Evans 1.5"" centerfire cartridge. The overall length of this Evans sporting rifle is approx. 39.25"". The 22"" round barrel has a good bright bore with strong rifling showing extensive firing. Most Evans New Model sporting rifles have octagon barrels. The top of the barrel is marked EVANS REPEATING RIGLE. MECHANIC FALLS, ME. PAT. DEC. 8, 1868 & SEPT. 16 1871. The barrel has a blade front sight and military style ladder rear sight. The gun has approx. 97% bright refinish blue with some pits showing under the blue. This sporting rifle has the late lever with the curled under tip. The refinished stocks are fine with no cracks or chips, and very little wear. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice refinished late Evans New Model sporting rifle with the scarce round barrel.
