Description:
WORLD WAR II Era Italian CARCANO Model 1891 8mm Cal. C&R SPORTING Carbine

WWII Military Rifle Converted to SPORTING Carbine

Here we present a C&R Italian Carcano Model 1891 Sporting Carbine, manufactured at one of the Italian Military Arsenals in 1939 during a production run between 1938 and 1945. This would have been manufactured in 1939 as an infantry rifle and sporterized sometime thereafter. Carcano is the frequently used name for a series of Italian bolt-action, magazine-fed, repeating military rifles and carbines.

Introduced in 1891, this rifle was chambered for the rimless 6.5x52mm Carcano round. It was developed by the chief technician Salvatore Carcano at the Turin Army Arsenal in 1890 and was originally called the Modello (model) 91 or simply M91. Successively replacing the previous Vetterli-Vitali rifles and carbines, it was produced from 1892 to 1945. The M91 was used in both rifle (fucile) and shorter-barreled carbine (moschetto) form by most Italian troops during World War I and by Italian and some German forces during World War II.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is clear and in good shape. Solid stock throughout with average wear, scuff, and dings. A thin crack is present atop the wrist and it remains stable. “1939” dated barrel. Legible markings. The bolt and barrel are “SD” marked.
