As I understand During the Revolutionary war in 1777 congress passed a law that muskets including captured muskets were to be marked US or United States and continued thru the war of 1812. Since there is no date I'm not sure which type of Tower Brown Bess this musket is. It has a 39" barrel and total length is 54 inches. Formerly flintlock Towere lock is marked US Tower with the Crown and GR was probably converted to percussion before the civil war. The 39 "barrel has a front sight and has several British proofs and is also marked US and I think is approximately 75 caliber. The but plate, trigger gaurd, left side plate and ramrod pipes are brass. The barrel and lock have a dark brown patina. There are old Initials JFD on the butt stock and the stock was once cracked at the wrist and repaired. The lock functions but the nipple is damaged. A historic old musket. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Shipping will be actuall cost by insured usps priority mail with tracking. On Hold Sale Pending.
