The Colt Pythons were made from 1955 to 2005, then re-introduced in 2020. Some firearm collectors and writer have described the Python as “the finest production revolver ever made”.
The majority of Pythons were chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge but Colt also manufactured a 38 Special version in a couple of limited production runs. In 1980/81 Colt produced a limited production run of 251 chambered for 38 Special that featured a full nickel plated finish and 8” barrel. These guns were called the “Nickel Python Target”.
Many of the original Nickel Python Targets were purchased by Pacific International Distributing Corporation in 1981. Pacific International purchased as many Target Pythons that they could (both blued and the RARE nickel versions) and cut down the barrels to 3”, calling them the “California Combat” Pythons. It is unknown how many of the original factory 8” Nickel Target Pythons are left in existence, but the general consensus among collectors is less than 150. This gun has the correct serial number to be one of the original 251.
This all-original Colt Python Nickel Target was made in 1980 and comes with the original matching serial number box with manual. This gun is in excellent condition with no wear to speak of, appears unfired. A very close inspection reveals no powder residue at all.
This gun has been imported and bears a discreet import marking.
