Description:
For sale: Civil War full scale 12lb Coehorn signal Mortar. Reportly found in barn by a minister in 1940's in Montross, Virginia.
Base is 6" X 25" and has blacksmith metal locking bands with 4 metal hand holds covered in burlap twine. Tube is approximately
11 inches X 6 inch barrel and bore is 2.25 inches, Weight with base is between 200-300 lb. Looks as if wooden elevation chock and chain were added at a later time. Tube appears to be rough Iron cast with appropriate pitting especially at the touch hole.Great conversation piece for a collector or an artillery reenactor or 4th of July neighbor awakener, Has original tampion. No markings on barrel or trunions. Shipping can be arranged and if in southeast Seller can hand deliver for fee. 10% discount to veterans and reenactors. Reasonable offers considered. ( History: Montross is not too far from Cockpit point on the Potomac River where Confederates had a battery that was overwhelmed in March 1862}
