Remington New Model Police Revolver Single Action, .36 caliber percussion, 5 shot, with 4 1/2" octagon barrel marked: PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858, E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. NEW MODEL The New Model "POLICE REVOLVER" is smaller than the New Model NAVY REVOLVER and smaller than the New Model BELT REVOLVER Manufactured from 1865 to 1873. Production was about 18,000, that makes it a very hard model to find. The Navy .36 and screws enters from the left side of the frame, the POLICE enter from the right side. Bore shows very strong rifling with some pitting, and light corrosion. Mechanically perfect when pointed straight up. When pointed down it does not rotate. Likely needs a heaver hand spring. Original Grips show only minor handling dings, with no cracks. Under the grip and loading lever is serial #4480. Metal surface is a brown patina with the cylinder showing some light surface pitting. The frame and barrel are generally smooth, with handling dings. The brass trigger guard is shinny bright silver plate. Of all the percussion Remington NEW MODELS this model was most often converted to rimfire. To find one in percussion with the 4 1/2 inch barrel is rare. Other items show are not included.
