Sale pending #6408 Charles Lancaster Wrist breaker 12 2 ½” Nitro proof.
Made in 1891 as per makers records, No 1 of a pair. 30” tubes in a tight and beautiful Damascus pattern made by C. Lancaster, a renowned barrel maker (stamped CL) . Bores measure .730 R and .0733 L , chokes are .002 R and .036 L , wall thickness at .027 R and .028 L . Browning in 95% condition, mirror chambers and bores. Good solder joints, London Nitro reproof. Importer’s name (Woodcock Hill) can be found under the forend.
Side lever, self- opener with main springs cocking at closing, hence the name. Action is tight and breeches are on face. Nice, crisp trigger pulls, ejector in time, automatic safety and bushed strikers.
Action retains 20% of what appears to be original case color, and has 75% tight scroll engraving coverage. Straight stock with a 14 7/8 LOP over a leather covered pad , drop is 1 ½” and 2”, with 1/2” of cast off, making the gun point well even for somebody like myself shooting 2 ½” drop at heel . Wood is solid, flush with metal and finish and checkering are in 95% condition with light handling marks. The gun weighs 7 pounds even, and balances at the hinge.
A best shotgun that had a sheltered life and proper maintenance, for the discerning collector.
