Description:
SALE PENDING. Best quality Rigby Rising Bite Sidelock 12 gauge with 30" fluid steel barrels. This fine gun was made in 1883 and Rigby records indicate it as a "Best hammerless top snap double". Breech face shows the Rigby - Bissel patent. The rising bite is perhaps the most elegant and complicated third fastening system ever devised. Mirror bores with 2 3/4" chambers. Right bore measures .737 with 1/4 choke, while the left is .735 with 1/2 choke. Gun has extractors, as a truly robust and reliable ejector system had not been invented yet. The Southgate Ejector System, which became the gold standard, was invented in 1893. Bold and sharp scroll engraving with gold line cocking indicators. Locks are bar action with intercepting safety sears. Tight on face. Weight of the gun is 6 LBS 14 1/8" OZ. Well figured wood with marble cake figure. Lever forend fastening system. LOP is 14 3/4". Leather covered recoil pad. Drop at comb - 1 5/8". Drop at heel - 2 1/2". Oak and leather case remains in good condition with accessories as shown. The outside of the case has some scuff marks. Straps are in good condition. One small sliver of wood missing from the right corner of the case - barely noticeable. Notice how wide the gun opens for shell extraction and the perfect balance on the hinge pin (gun is balanced on ONE stand - see the last three photos). Rigby will make you a brand new Rising Bite Sidelock for about 80,000 Pounds Sterling! Shipping and insurance is $150 by USPS Priority Mail. As an antique this gun can ship directly to you as your local law allows.
