Description:
Colt 1911A1 Military Pistol Manufactured in 1937. One of 2349 made and bought by the Government that year. Majority went to the U.S. NAVY. Serial # 710815. Making this the 815th pistol made. Shipped to Springfield Armory on 18 March 1937 in a lot of 500 pistols. Clawson says the P proofing of slide and reciever started at #711000. This is the earliest '37 P proofed I've ever seen or heard of. Gun is 100% factory correct and ORIGINAL. I would rate the ORIGINAL BLUE at 97% with the exception of the front strap turning to plum brown. See in pictures. ORIGINAL barrel has perfect bore. Grips have very minor use marks. Action is fine. Many of the 37's are unfortunatly at the bottom of the Pacific. Survival rate is probably no more than 20%. I have had two restored 37's and seen probably half a dozen more. ORIGINAL finish guns are extremely RARE. This pistol is truly one of the BEST SURVIVING ORIGINAL EXAMPLES KNOWN. Centerpiece for even the best 1911 collections.
