Description: The Banker’s Special was designed by Colt for easy carry, concealment, and quick access by bank employees. The U.S. Postal Service quickly issued this model to its railroad mail clerks and even some police departments of the day issued it as a backup gun. Today they are quite rare. This example has certainly seen use. It left the Colt factory in 1929 according to Colt’s own Serial Number Database. Currently, the bore is in very good shape with only very minute pitting. The rifling is still well defined. At some point, the Banker’s Special was refinished. Sadly, during the re-bluing process, the cylinder stud, i.e. the little bump on the left side behind the cylinder, was polished down too far. As such, when opening the cylinder, it moves back until the ejector rod head touches the crane. The mechanical lockup is not as tight on this revolver as it should be. The cylinder does not always fully rotate during single action operation. The hand does not reengage the cylinder ratchet when the trigger is pulled. The external surface of the cylinder is pitted. The rear side plate screw is buggered. For safety reasons, it is recommended that the revolver not be fired. The grips are lightly worn but in good shape overall.
