***SOLD*** Exceedingly rare Pre War Winchester 70 Super Grade short rifle (aka Carbine) in universally loved .30GOV'T'06 (30-06). S/N 28*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1940.
The only legitimate example I have ever handled, with postively original 20" barrel showing perfect stampings, ramp transitions, crown, etc. Additionally, the wear patterns between the metal and the beautiful Super Grade stock suggest that they have been paired together from the beginning and that this is not a contrived or upgraded gun which was seldom if ever done on "common" caliber rifles anyway. Everything on this rifle appears 100% correct including all original finishes, UNDRILLED rear bridge, Redfield front sight, factory inletted and installed Lyman 48WJS receiver sight, Lyman 12S filler in barrel dovetail, correct Pre War style swivels, etc. The bluing is excellent showing about 98% overall. The wood rates about 96% with some scattered impressions. It has the bright honey color and tight grain typically seen only on a small percentage of the earlier rifles, and has never been refinished. A special and virtually impossible to find configuration that deserves a prominant postion in any 70 collection.
