Description:
NSN, .30 RF, 3 inch octagon barrel with a very good bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is a nicely engraved revolver, marked “WILLIAMSON BROs. / LONDON" along the topstrap, that was obviously based on the “sheath-trigger" designs of William Tranter, but does not incorporate Tranter’s patent sideplate or bottom-hinged loading gate. The barrel (which is slightly loose), cylinder pin, cylinder, and loading gate have an overall pewter gray patina mixing with mild freckling throughout. The hammer has a slightly brighter patina, but does have traces of blue on protected areas. The brass frame, which is handsomely engraved with floral scrollwork, has an overall dull yellow-ochre patina, and the checkered walnut grips are in very good shape, exhibiting light-moderate wear and flattening of the points on either side. The action is fully functional, and the lock-up is tight. This very revolver is illustrated and described in-depth on pgs. 274 and 275 of “Tranter Cartridge Fireams" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; 2007. This is a very interesting Tranter copy, and would make a fine addition to any collection. Antique
