Description:
Offered for sale is a collection of Civil War Muskets. This one is a very nice 1855 SPRINGFIELD .58cal. with the Maynard type lock. It still has an original tape primer in the lock!!!. This one has a nice bore as well, bright with strong rifling. Excellent, crisp action. Lock and barrel dated 1858, earlier one with the brass foreend cap. Nice ESA cartouche opposite the lock. Appears to have some wood puddy filler under the date at the back of the lockplate, where someone chipped it out removing the lock wrongly at some time. There is a chip out of the stock at the left of the tang as well. Still, a very nice, early, pre Civil War musket with strong condition! And that tape primer still in the lock!!! Nice musket!!!
