This is a Zurich Zeughaus-manufactured rifle that has retained about 40-45% of the original blue finish that blends smoothly into a dark, plum-brown patina on the balance. The metal has some silvering at the muzzle and along the exposed edges and projections as well. The "ZZ (in shield)" crest is crisp and clear on the left side of the receiver. All numbers are matching, and the walnut buttstock and knurled forend have minor surface scratches and small blemishes evenly scattered about the added military oil finish. A plastic wood-repaired duffel-cut is present on the forend between the bands, and an original, mottled gray-brown cleaning rod is included. This is a handsome example of an early Swiss Vetterli, from a seldom seen maker, and in good-very good condition.
