Description:
General Specs: Paul Jaeger, Year 1956, 12 Gauge, 7lbs
Serial Number: 54340

Paul Jaeger was an American born, German trained gunsmith that opened a shop in Jenkintown, PA just after WWII and built custom guns there until his retirement in 1977.  Jaeger was known for building accurate rifles with fine finishes and custom touches in classic American style.  Jaeger also had fine shotguns like this Belgium made 12 bore imported from the well-known maker of fine firearms, Charles Masquelier.  Masquelier was known for building fine shotguns from the early 1900’s into the mid-1960’s.  This gun, serial number 54340 built in 1956 is a fine example.  Hand engraved on the left barrel as being marketed by “Paul Jaeger – Jenkintown – PA” and right barrel as “Manurfacture Armes de Luxe C. Masquelier - Leige”, this beautiful shotgun was built with all the details you would expect from Paul Jaeger.  At the heart of the build (and importance) are Acier Siemens Steel (premium Belgium steel) barrels factory chambered for 2 ¾” shells, still with perfect mirror shiny bores, tight ribs and barrels fit tight as new on hinge and standing breech.  The beautifully hand engraved game scene engraving adorns the sideplated action with perfect screws and 100% coin finish, not a flaw or mark on it, with crisp triggers and strong well-timed ejectors, solid safety…all mechanics functioning as they should.  The finely checkered European walnut stocks retain all the original finish with only a few light handling marks, the buttstock carved with drop points and long tang, round knob pistol grip, and terminated in a fine Purdey-style leather covered pad as is befitting a fine European doublegun.  The forend is comprised of a finely shaped beavertail forearm that fills the hand but retains a graceful line.  This gun balances perfectly just forward of the hinge pin and weighs an even 7lbs. with its 27 ½” barrels.  The blueing on the barrels is a solid 99% factory finish.  There is nothing to want for this gun…it is near new in all aspects, has wonderful shooting dimensions with 14 ¾” LOP (see specs in tables below this paragraph), is choked well for upland game and sporting clays, and is very pleasing to the eye. Once you buy the gun there will be nothing else to do but to take her to the range or field and enjoy gunning with a fine shotgun.  Best yet, it is priced very affordably for such a well-made, highly decorated gun from a well-respected Belgium maker.  Don’t let this one get away, and thanks for looking!
