Description:
Exceptional in every way, this larger than life Westley Richards is amongst the finest I have seen from the maker in this type of configuration. The gun, made between the wars (1931) with 30" Fluid steel barrels that have low profile ventilated top rib (an extreme rarity on a Westley). Slim splinter forend with engraved Deeley latch type release is nicely engraved. The beautifully case hardened boxlock action is engraved in scroll and Pigeon motif as seen in the photos with blued trigger plate and long tang trigger guard. Stocks are of best quality with checkered side panels and checkered through the wrist in point pattern and terminate with a fine checkered butt. The gun was made originally with 3" chambers and is proofed for 1-1/2oz loads - ideal for the Pigeon Ring!
Overall, the gun remains in superb all original condition with more than 98% original barrel blue. Case colors are more than 95% bold and brilliant. Stocks are sound and retain nearly all of their original finish with only very minor handling marks. Checkering is crisp and the gun appears very little used throughout. Bores are brilliant and shiny and mechanics are crisp.
This is an exceedingly rare gun having been made between the wars and with the original features and condition that it has. Pigeon shooters will recognize that a true factory 3" 1-1/2oz proofed gun simply does not exist in nature and this gun is the perfect set up for the ring! It was featured in an article in Westley Richards "Explora" newsletter in 2018 written by Trigger of Westley's wherein he discusses the merits of this extraordinary fine arm.
