Some historians say that about half of the antique muzzleloaders back then (1840s onward) were equipped with Golcher locks, starting with Joseph Golcher, Several men in the family were gunmakers. It is known that Geoge's brother Thomas Golcher was a gunmaker in Philadelphia in the time of our Revolution, and produced guns for the Safety Commitee there.
