THE A.H. FOX STERLINGWORTH---THE BEST VALUE IN THE VINTAGE AMERICAN DOUBLEGUN WORLD, BAR NONE!  Why such a bold claim?  First, the Fox Sterlingworth is the same gun mechanically as all other grades of the A.H. Fox gun, having the fewest parts and smallest action of any of its competitors.  The Fox gun mechanism is utterly reliable, the locking mechanism simple and efficient, the barrels and action made of the finest steels of its time, the wood finely fitted to the action, checkering well cut, and the balance and handling dynamics of the gun was superb.  Second, because they made a lot of them, the price is very affordable.  With so many of them out there, how do you know which one to buy?  Condition is important, and many of Sterlingworth guns were used hard and not well maintained.  IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES.  At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed, and on THIS gun, we stripped the action to the smallest part, Ultrasonic clean and scrub all parts to shiny metal, inspect all parts for integrity and function, make any replacements or repairs necessary, lubricate and reassemble, providing VFI CERTIFIED GUNS, a $275 service in our shop.  VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field.  NONE of the other sellers provide this service.  Additionally, most of the early American doubleguns were short chambered for the older style shells.  PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO FIND 2 ½” SHELLS TO PURCHASE.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER, AND FINDING IT SAFE TO DO, HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN.  This is a $360 service in our shop.  Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine older doubleguns.  Other important factors are condition of the metal, screws, wood, and bores.  We provide the most comprehensive photography and specifications in the marketplace, information that allows you to make a good choice.  Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for!  If you want a vintage doublegun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available shotgun shells.  This gun, sn65214 built in 1913 during a period of the best Fox guns, is unique and desirable in several ways.  The gun retains all factory original finishes, with most all the original varnish on the wood, 99% strong factory blue on the barrels, and 80% bone and charcoal factory case colors that are turning patina, as well as a mirror shiny, superb bore.  For those looking for a fine Fox Sterlingworth to shoot heavy loads, this gun was shipped with the heaviest #1 weight barrels choked F/F, with factory original bore diameters and 37 thou minimum wall thickness anywhere on the barrels.  She can handle heavy field loads with ease.  The barrels are tight on hinge and action, with the top lever well right of center, the screws are perfect and clocked, and the wood-to-metal fit is superb, with no cracks or splits anywhere.  BEST OF ALL, THE GUN HAS MODERN STOCK DIMENSIONS.  See below for specifications.  This is NOT your run-of-the-mill Sterlingworth.  Thanks for looking!
