General Specs: Browning, Year 1949, 12 Gauge, 7lb 4oz, Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 7/16", DAH 2 3/16", DAC 1 7/16"
Serial Number: 17594A

The genius of John M. Browning gave the shooting world some of the most famous firearms ever created. They include several Winchester lever guns, Colt pistols like the 1911,  the Hi Power and the first successful semi-auto shotgun, the Auto-5. In the early decades of the twentieth century Browning started to design something not available to American shooters, a high-quality, affordable over/under shotgun, and sadly this was to be his last design, his final legacy to the gun world - the Superposed.

The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in conservative field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, Browning Superposed was undertaken in Belgium, from 1931 through 1977 when traditional craftsmanship style production ended.
Vintage Firearm is pleased to offer this VFI certified and fully restored Browning Superposed A1. A very rare find in  North America, this straight stocked superposed was initially built for the European market and since its construction in 1949 has contrived to leave the European mainland and migrate to these shores. Knowing of its rarity Vintage Firearms undertook to fully restore this shotgun to become a prime example of Fabrique Nationale's outstanding design. This gun is an all-around classic; it sports improved cylinder and modified chokes, a solid rib, single trigger breaking at 3.4lb and 3.8lb, a straight stock exhibiting some awesome European straight figured walnut, and beautiful mineral streaks add contrast to the wood that is unusually good for a grade 1 gun. The field forend and wrist are exquisitely checkered with 26 lines per inch with triple borders and the whole is 100% finished with hand rubbed oils. The butt is finished with a VFI leather pad fitted in correct Browning fashion to a curved butt. All the screws are in perfect order and clocked, the bore is mirrored. Ejectors are well timed and the action is tight and to the right of center. The manual safety is selectable and moves with a positive click, while the action closes like a vault with a ring that embodies perfection. The receiver is in 100% condition with engraving designed by Felix Funken. The A1 was the standard pattern of engraving for Fabrique Nationale post war. It featured acanthus leaves cut into the breech and frame top, rosette engraved hinge pin and border defines the perimeter of the action. A picture of this style can be seen on page 141 of "The Browning Superposed" book by Ned Schwing; this pattern is still in use today.

An elegant, rare and classic Browning, add it to your collection, enjoy.
