Description:
General Specs: Smith & Wesson, Year 1978, 9mm, 29oz
Serial Number: A437281

The Smith & Wesson Model 39 is a semi-automatic pistol developed for the United States Army service pistol trials of 1954. After the Army abandoned its search for a new pistol- (staying with the Colt 1911A1), the Model 39 went on to be offered to the civilian market.
The Model 39-2 was built with an anodized aluminum frame, a curved backstrap and a blued carbon steel slide that carried the manual decocker/ safety. The gun has a magazine disconnect and a wide trigger allowing for an easy double action trigger pull of 11lb thereafter breaking at 3.25lb with a very short and fast reset, once shooting is over the decocker is moved downwards, safely returning the pistol to double action mode. This gun has a few marks to its frame but considering its age it is in great shape, the bluing and anodized frame still exhibit its original factory black finish. The Walnut grips are in excellent condition with excellent checkering and screws with one small, hard to see chip on the border. The gun has two Smith & Wesson marked single stack magazines.

Adjustable rear sights and a broad serrated ramp front sight make for a clear target picture and considering that this was Smith & Wesson first new gen semi auto they really did a fantastic job with its ergonomics and a trigger that even today could be considered amongst the best of DA/ SA switches. All in all a cool piece of firearm history.
Head back in time with this milestone gun, enjoy.
