Description:
EXCELLENT AND RARE VERY EARLY PRODUCTION 6 1/2" BARREL MODEL 1926 .44 HAND EJECTOR 3RD MODEL (WOLF & KLAR MODEL), #29488, MADE 1927. According to The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th edition, Supica and Nahas, Harold Wesson ordered the production of this model in 1926 but doesn't appear in production until 1929. The book also states that only 4,976 "were reported manufactured circa 1926-1941." Serial numbers ran from 28358-61412 and ran "overlapping the 2nd Model." So, one can reasonably conclude that this is either a pre-production example or one of the very first production guns made. Most of these limited production Model 1926 .44 Special caliber revolvers had 4" or 5" barrels with, again quoting the book, "6 1/2" barrels scarce." This exceptional example is in nickel finish with nearly all the bright nickel intact- one would have to look carefully and closely to see any pin prick peeling or spotting etc. even on the edges. All correct markings are sharp and clear. It is fitted with pearl grips that fit well and may or may not be factory original. The butt lanyard swivel has been removed and could be easily replaced. Fine case colors on the correctly patent marked hammer and patent marked trigger. Tight action, excellent bore, matching numbers on the frame, barrel and cylinder. An important and exceedingly rare model and variation S&W is super condition.
