Description:
1892 .38-40 OCTAGON RIFLE, #277XXX, MADE 1903. This is a particularly attractive rifle that retains good receiver blue- more to the back half on each side with the front half thinning. There is also good lightly thinning blue on the bolt and upper tang. The bottom of the receiver is mostly gray. The barrel and mag tube show fine deep blue with minimal age and edge wear. Original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and small Lyman marked blade/brass bead front sight. The stock and forend have a "smooth" feel as if the wood may have been steel wooled, but NOT sanded as the wood is "proud" of the metal with tight wood to metal fit and shows only light handling. Bore is bright and about excellent overall- may have some light, scattered surface leading that ought to clean out. An attractive 119 year old 1892.
