Description:
General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1905, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 15oz, Chokes IM/F, LOP 14 9/16", DAH 1 15/16", DAC 1 5/16"
Serial Number: 205158

Vintage American double gunners recognize L.C. Smith guns built before 1913 as the best of their kind, with more attention to detail, better stock inletting, and even nicer engraving than the named models that came post 1913.  Only 94 MONOGRAM GRADE GUNS MADE BETWEEN 1892 AND 1918, WITH ANOTHER 133 MADE BETWEEN 1918 AND 1945, FOR A TOTAL OF 227 EVER MADE.  This Monogram, sn205158 built in 1905 and documented by Cody Firearms Museum, is especially rare, as it was built as A LIVE BIRD GUN WITH NO SAFETY.  Those that study these turn-of-the-century doubleguns recognize that when a live bird gun was ordered it was given special treatment in the way of chambers, bore, and choke, as the success of the competitor using your L.C. Smith gun would be widely publicized and bring fame and fortune to your company.  The Monogram was a Grade 6 gun, more decorated than the Grade 5, with only the A2 and A3 coming from L.C. Smith with more embellishment.  Look closely at the incredible rose and scroll engraving, the details in the pigeons on the sideplates and the duck on the bottom of the action, the beaded fences, and the finely sculpted frame…simply amazing!  What a gorgeous gun, with the finest WHITWORTH FLUID STEEL barrels measuring 30" and choked IM/F (use spreader loads for more open choking) with excellent shiny bores, tight ribs, nicely engraved at the breech and muzzle, the engraved lettering on the barrels still sharp and clear.  The wood is superbly figured Turkish walnut, finely checkered with ribbons and flor-de-lis carvings, fit to the action to perfection, finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish.  It doesn’t get much better.  Mechanically perfect with strong well-timed ejectors, single selective trigger that performs flawlessly, barrels tight on hinge and breech face like a new gun with the top lever still right of center, she is ready for another century of service and enjoyment.  This gun was fully restored by Turnbull Restorations and retains 100% case color and blue, the screws are perfect, and all is in awesome working order.  When considering upland game, doves, pigeons, or clay targets, this gun is ready for all.  Collector interest in L.C. Smith has become brisk, with prices rising and creating a great investment opportunity.  Consider what a Parker Grade 6, or AHE, 12ga. would cost in this condition (over $30,000) and you realize what a bargain this is.  I consider the Monogram Elsie to be one of the most beautiful of the American doubles, no matter what the cost.  Check out the wood to metal fit, screws, checkering...what a nice 116-year-old gun!  Monograms don't come up for sale very often, and I don’t know if I have ever seen one produced as a live bird gun, so don't miss your opportunity!  If you must have a safety on your gun, we can add a L.C. Smith safety mechanism here in our gunsmithing department for an extra cost.  We can also alter the stock dimensions to fit your needs, provide choke work, or whatever it is you wish to have changed on this fine gun.  Look long and hard and you will only find one or two Monograms for sale in the marketplace, they are that rare.  Thanks for looking!
