Description:
A very nice Second Model Civil War Maynard Calvary Carbine serial #17083 showing copious factory blue finish on barrel and nice case hardened color on receiver. This is a fairly high condition example recently found in a South Carolina home. The wood is good to excellent condition showing the slightest of handling use and an inspectors cartouche on left hand wrist. The bore is bright and shiny just as you would expect of a gun of this condition, with action being nice and crisp. Has one spot on the bottom of barrel which I haven’t attempted to clean otherwise an excellent overall example. The Second Model Maynard Carbine was manufactured between 1863 and 1865 with approximately 20,202 total production. This is a 50 caliber example void of patch box with lettering on receiver, Manufactured by Mass Arms Co. Chicopee Falls and Edward Maynard Patentee May 27, 1851 December 6, 1859. The Maynard was used by the 9th and 11th Indiana Cavalry and the 11th Tennessee, further research is warranted to determine if this is one of those issued guns. Overall a very nice high condition fresh to the market Maynard with lots of factory blue and case hardened color.
