Colt 1911A1 1938 Navy Pistol. THE RAREST OF THE PRE-WAR BLUED 1911A1'S. Serial # 713551. One of 1296 produced in 1938. Shipped to Springfield Armory Commanding Officer on Aug. 15, 1938 in a shipment of 246 pistols. Totally original with the exception of one parkerized grip screw. Matching frame and slide. I'd say 20% original blue remains with the remainder turning brown- gray.. Front strap is silver-gray. This pistol was used. Grips have heavy wear. It didn't sit in a rack. Maybe USMC used? The old story, if only it could talk. Original barrel has frosting .Worst part of gun is when it came home, (as we see on many government guns), the UNITED STATES PROPERTY marking has been removed. This 1938 is honest and seldom ever offered or seen in even the most advanced 1911 collections. Last one that I know of that just sold was 2 months ago for $65000.
