Description:
This is a handsome sword that measures 39 7/8" overall, with a 34" straight, single-edged blade having narrow double fullers. The steel has an overall dull pewter gray patina with spots of plum-brown freckling starting to appear, and a small amount of reshaping at the very tip. The long ricasso is marked "WAFFENFABRICK / NEUHAUSEN" on the obverse, with the serial number (23414) and Roman numeral III opposite. The hilt has a pierced steel guard with Swiss Cross and vine motif, a single forward-swept quillon, and dove head pommel with thumbprint backstrap. The shagreen grip is in very good shape and exhibits minor surface wear, while the braided wire wrap is intact. The steel scabbard is also in fine shape, with some scattered specks of dark freckling, and a few minor dents near the drag. The sword rates fine condition overall.
