Description:
Serial #11904, .41 Swiss RF, 33" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a Waffenfabrik Bern-manufactured, double-set trigger, sharpshooter’s rifle that has retained about 60-70% of the original blue finish, mainly on the receiver, with the balance of the metal turned to a mellow plum-brown patina with gray fading at the muzzle from the bayonet. The metal has some further silvering and fading along the exposed edges, and the trigger guard has a mottled gray patina. The walnut buttstock and forend have some minor surface scratches and small blemishes scattered about the otherwise fine original military oil finish. The rifle is accompanied by its original, numbered socket bayonet ("11904") that measures 21 1/2" overall, with a 19 1/2" cruciform blade that has an overall gray-brown patina with some original bright blue within the blade flutes. The original leather scabbard has mild flaking and crazing along the surface of the leather, and the throat tab, which is still supple and intact, has a crisp "(Cross)/T" stamp. An original cleaning rod is also included. This is a fine example of a rare and desirable Swiss military rifle, with an almost never seen matching numbered bayonet. Antique
