WOOD APPEARS TO BE MAPLE WITH FANTASTIC ORIGINAL DRY RED PAINT SHOWING MINOR SCUFFS or WEAR WITH A COUPLE OF DRYING CRACKS THAT I WOULD CONSIDER VERY MINOR AND ARE PICTURED. I WAS TOLD IT BELONGED TO A NEW ENGLAND PATRIOT WHO DIED BEFORE HE COULD BE OFF TO FIGHT AND HIS FAMILY FROM MAINE HAD PASSED IT DOWN OVER THE YEARS. DESIGNED TO HOLD WATER or MORE LIKELY RUM WHICH WAS SAFER TO DRINK AT THE TIME. THE STOPPER IS OLD BUT MAY NOT BE ORIGINAL ? ADDITIONAL PICS JUST ASK.
