Rimfire PISTOL with SLIDING DAGGER MASSACHUSETTS Made SWIVEL BREECH Pocket Pistol Here we present an antique Frank Wesson Swivel Breech Superposed Over/Under Pocket Pistol made circa 1868-80 in Worcester, Massachusetts. It is estimated that less than 3,000 of these two shot pistols were manufactured during its 12 year production run. The barrels rotate for loading and firing, and it has a serrated spur trigger and a smooth bird’s head butt with rosewood grips. Pistols of all sorts had by then become a common mode of pocket-sized firepower, though small revolvers were quickly eclipsing the single shot design. This would have likely been intended as a self-defense gun. In a day when the single shot pistol was popular, this over/under pistol would have been a very handy self-defense weapon to have around, having two shots to fire off instead of one! This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket or belt of anyone in the busy cities of New York or Chicago during the tumultuous times of the mid to late-1800s. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket or tucked inside one’s belt and women would hide them in a hand muff. From the time that firearms were introduced, gunsmiths had experimented with various ways to turn those single shot weapons into multi-shot weapons. Prior to the use of “repeating” arms, one of the most successful systems was to use multiple barrels, each with their own load and charge. The overall condition is near fine. Strong action. Original nickel finish. The bores are semi-bright. This example has nice grips with little handling wear. Legible markings. The dagger is fully functioning. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 3 inches. Caliber: .41 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
