Description:
This is a beautiful all-original 1964 production Smith & Wesson K22 Masterpiece Model 17-2 DA/SA Revolver in .22 Long Rifle complete with it's original box, etc.. This Model 17-2 is in superb condition inside and out and features a 6" inch pinned barrel, a gloss blue finish, special-order factory sights consisting of a pinned front blade with a Hi-Viz red insert and an adjustable white-outline rear target, a color case hardened factory target hammer, a color case hardened factory target trigger, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, and checkered Walnut grips with diamond centers. This K22 Masterpiece has apparently spent the vast majority of it's life in storage and looks to have been fired very, very little. The gloss blue factory finish on this gun rates 98% and is bright and beautiful. The only deductions come from some tiny handling/storage marks and a VERY faint drag-line around the cylinder. The front face of the cylinder shows little to no evidence of being fired with no flash halos around the chambers, and the forcing cone is nice and clean. The case colored finish on the target hammer and trigger rates 99% with no visible defects or wear, and both parts are still showing nice bright color with 100% coverage. All of the factory markings on the gun are crisp and clean, and all of the serial numbered parts are matching including the frame, cylinder, action star/ejector, and right grip panel (As was the practice at this time). The serial number on the cylinder is under the action star, and the serial number on the action star is on the underside of the star, both of which are only visible with the ejector depressed. The grips on this Model 17-2 are particularly beautiful with some nice figure in them and in superb condition with no visible wear or damage. Both grip panels are a perfect match to each other in every way. The checkering is sharp and clean and the S&W medallions are bright and in like-new condition. Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame with no wiggle. As mentioned earlier, the right grip panel is stamped on the reverse with the full serial number matching the gun. The action on this Smith has to be felt to truly be appreciated. It is incredibly smooth and click, much more so than any more modern version of the Model 17. The expert hand-fitting and tuning put into this 1960's production gun is very evident and can not be duplicated by machine. The action is perfectly "in time" no matter how fast or slow it is worked, double or single action. All of the controls on the gun are in perfect working order, including the rear sight adjustments. As mentioned earlier, this K22 Masterpiece Model 17-2 comes complete with it's original factory box with an intact end label serial-numbered to the gun. There is no mention of the special order sights but that is not irregular as often they would just pull a gun already assembled that was ready to be shipped and add the sights without altering the label that was already applied. Inside the box the anti-rust shipping paper is still present as-is the original warranty card which was never filled out. There is no owner's manual present. If you have been looking for an investment-grade S&W K22 Masterpiece Model 17-2 for your collection here is your chance to get a superb original example. It would be very hard to upgrade from this beauty in any regard.
