Description:
Here is an original WWII-era Colt Commando chambered in .38 Special with a 4" barrel. This Colt Commando is in great overall condition and was manufactured in 1942. Colt manufactured approximately 50,000 of these revolvers from 1942 to 1945 for use in WWII and stateside agencies. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT COMMANDO/38 SPECIAL" and the Colt triangle "VP" is on the left front of the trigger guard. The revolver has the correct smooth trigger and cylinder release, and checkered hammer spur. It is also fitted with checkered brown plastic grips which are correct for the era. The parkerized finish across the entirety of the revolver is in great condition with various handling marks, holster wear on both sides of the barrel, and slight high-edge wear. The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, and shows no signs of pitting or erosion. Both the cylinder face and rear star are clean and show no signs of excessive wear or handling. The checkered brown plastic grips are free from any cracks or chips and do show light signs of handling/wear. The grips have shrunk slightly over time which is common for grips of this era. All the factory markings are clean and crisp, and the action functions flawlessly. The bottom of the grip is marked with "WDC" which could indicate that the Commando went to a certain police agency or government agency instead of the US Military.
