Description:
This beautiful and unique straight gripped Winchester 1892 deluxe with a matted barrel and no rear sight provision is purported to have been purchased from renouned Western novelist Zane Grey's estate. It is believed that it was a "gift gun" from Winchester to Grey as they often gave celebrities guns in order to promote their brand. As you can see the serial number appears to have been hand selected off the factory line as it is #676767. It was purchased around 1940 in Southern California from a gun shop shortly after Grey's death in 1939 in Altadena, California. It remained in the family of the buyer for over 75 years and was actually used to deer hunt in California a few times.
The overall condition of the blue, wood and bore remain excellent. The checkered 3X wood is gorgeous and is all original. Very strong case colors still remain on the hammer, buttplate and lever. There is only light honest wear and handling marks from being carried a few times. It came with a factory Lyman tang sight, factory swivels and a rare matted barrel with no rear sight provision. The serial number puts it's manufacture date at 1912.
