Description:
This is a full box, 50 rounds, of .38 Long Rim Fire ammunition manufactured by Winchester. The two piece, green label circa 1880's box is in excellent condition with an exceptionally clean and crisp top label with beautiful graphics and the same for the orange side label. It bears the early incorrect Stetsons Patent of Oct. 24th 1871 and according to Giles and Shuey in One Hundred Years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes 1856-1956 (p98) was out of the catalogs by 1887. The box itself is excellent with one age split on a top corner. The cartridges are in excellent condition, all “H" head stamped with 12 having a darker appearance and slightly smaller “H". A beautiful display box.
