Description:
General Specs: Parker, Year 1929, 16 Gauge #1 frame, 6lbs 7oz, Chokes LM/F, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 11/16", DAC  1 5/8"
Serial Number: 229421

The Parker GH Grade is the first grade of Parker with "game scene" engraving.  The VH Grade had only zig-zag border engraving and the PH some light scroll work.  With the GH we have considerably more scroll work and vignettes on each side and the bottom with 2 birds in each vignette.  Game scene engraved Parkers is where the engraving becomes special in most buyer’s minds.  The wood is also nicer on the GH grade, nicely figured walnut on both sides of the stock, and the checkering more elaborate.  For the gunner that wants a representative example of a Parker bird gun he/she can take afield and do so affordably, the GH grade is a great start.  Most upland hunters prefer a smaller gauge and the 16 is the one that "carries like a 20 and hits like a 12", being lighter and handier than the big 12 bores.  From an investment standpoint, they made only 607 Parker GH 16ga. guns produced with Parker Special Steel barrels.  Beware that most GH guns you see are damascus guns which hold a much different value in the marketplace.  This gun, serial number 229421 made in 1929, is one of about 335 made with the most desirable 28" Parker Special Steel barrels and retains all factory original parts.  The engraving is sharp and clear, screws are perfect, checkering is clean and crisp, and the highly figured wood is without cracks or repairs.  We had our gunsmith department restore the wood to a beautiful, hand rubbed Truoil finish and touch up the checkering (an $800 service).  THIS IS ALSO A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, AS WE STRIPPED THE ACTION TO THE SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED AND SCRUBBED ALL PARTS TO BARE METAL, INSPECTED ALL FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED (A $275 SERVICE IN OUR SHOP), READY FOR THE UPLANDS AND CLAYS COURSE WITH NO WORRIES OF WHAT LIES WITHIN A 93-YEAR-OLD GUN.  We also carefully measured the barrel wall thickness at the end of the chambers and then lengthened them to 2 ¾” and extended the forcing cones to 1 ½” tapers, allowing the use of modern 2 ¾” ammunition, softening felt recoil to the shooter and the gun, and providing improved patterns (a $360 service in our shop).  If you are a 16ga. shooter you are likely aware that RST 2 ½” shells are no longer available and likely won’t be back until 2023.  Essentially, you cannot buy 2 ½” 16ga. shells at the present time. BEING ABLE TO SHOOT MODERN LOADS IS CRITICAL AT THIS POINT.  In the world of Parker 16ga. guns, this gun is a lightweight, weighing just 6lbs. 7oz. and balanced dead on the hinge pin, more than a quarter pound lighter than most Parker 16ga. guns.  When walking the fields for birds, this is A VERY VALUABLE FEATURE.  This gun has everything you should be looking for in a shootable, investment quality Parker (see specification tables below); modern stock dimensions, 28” field choked barrels with factory bore diameters and chokes and lots of wall thickness, excellent mechanics, fully cleaned and inspected, very low production numbers (rarity), and gorgeous wood and engraving.  All that needed to be done to maintain and improve this fine old Parker has already been done.  Now it is just waiting for its next adventure with its new caretaker.  And of course, with the rarity and desirability, the value will continue to increase as you enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking!
